I pick up a box of cutoffs from the organic market. The girls love their greens.

The back garden is going well. Over winter I stuck with greens, Romain lettuce, mizuna, tatsoi, spinach, chard, and rainbow chard. Broccolini did ok, but is very bitter as it's very warm here even in winter.

clucky

I have a clucky chook...(that's aussie for chicken..)

She's very determined

But right now, mid winter she's the only one laying.

Unfortunately for her, I won't be reaching into log piles around here to pull out chicken eggs, so the nesting must go.

The Garden, Before

I've promised to post more often. I have been busy, honest! Here's a sample. The front garden. Darrell had a garden out here years ago evidently. When I first got here he was hesitant to have me do anything, but then he relented and it turns out, he's still a gardener. :) We planted our kitchen herb garden out front. It gets plenty of sun for half the day and the herbs like lavender, basil, rosemary, and tarragon like it out there. Mint and oregano likes it in the half moon garden in front of the porch because it's wet there. We then mulched the whole front yard and planted native shrubs. More on that later.

The wedding that didn't happen

So, 12/12 we were supposed to get married.
Didn't happen due to some paperwork snafus. Ah well. So we rescheduled. We're coming up on the new date. Meanwhile, I thought I'd share a couple photos.

Gluten free food is pretty widespread here. This is a "Fairly Floss" cupcake, lemon cupcake with rose/raspberry frosting...surprisingly yummy!

These are Rosellas at the market...I haven't tried one yet, but perhaps one day soon. :)
